On the radar this week, we are zooming into our friends at Heddels who produced a tasty studio visit to FDMTL in Tokyo. It’s interesting to watch indigo sprout, bloom, blossom, and start to decay throughout the world as we find ourselves meditating on workwear taking strides and lengths of time through a harsh trend-based landscape.

As the beginnings of a women’s workwear line that plunges into a lifestyle driven design philosophy, Syndrome is the ’her’ to established mens brand, ’Syndro’ out of Taiwan. Perfectly (geographically) positioned for production, a strong work ethic, passion, a growing economy, as well as access to an incredibly diverse range of textiles from neighbouring China, Korea, Japan, and further down to South East Asia; these guys are exceptionally geared for making niche luxury workwear.

Black Horse Lane Ateliers are trying out a more responsible and transparent model, which should be a great pay-off to the industry itself. So a couple of weeks ago these guys opened their doors to welcome us to the seasoning of their remarkable new brand that hopes to connect nature with industry in E17, London.

WHAT REALLY GOES INTO OUR PICTURES [ PTJ BROKE THE INTERNET. ]

This is a little exploration into the art of styling, and the delicate art of having your picture taken. There are so many elements to be considered and it can be an all overwhelming experience. The way we see style or coolness if you like, is something that can’t be put down in words. You can’t dissect it, nor can you force to try to capture its essence. So don’t bother trying to force it into a photograph. We take you in on what goes into a PTJ photoshoot with this series by Ryan Plett in NYC.

THE SEA IS PARTING: OUR THOUGHTS ON MATTHEW DOLAN’S COLLECTION AT NYFW

We just want to say that Matthew Dolan’s work made our week in New York. As he did with his first collection, (that we must have raved on about a minute ago) workwear was given a new form. His poetic approach to creation and construction, was spun into thread and woven into realness, was alliterative and continuative, which sets a steady pace for the future of his label. This collection felt a little more consumable, which was a smart move. We like smarty pants who think about these things, it hints a little about what we can imagine the creativity taking us.
